HR Focus:

Interview Questions

You should ask open-ended questions that require the applicant to talk which may reveal undesirable traits such as a lack of respect for authority, inability to get along with co-workers and management, and poor work ethic.

Some examples of appropriate open-ended questions are;

  1. “What do you think of your current supervisor?”
  2. “How do you think your current supervisor will respond to my request for a reference?”
  3. “What policies of your current employer do you disagree with?”
  4. “What do you think is a satisfactory attendance record?”
  5. “Have you ever been fired or asked to resign from a job? Explain.
  6. “Do you feel your current job is stressful?
  7. “How do you handle stress?
  8. “Give an example of how you dealt with a particularly stressful work situation in the past.”
  9. “What are some of the things you wish to avoid in a new job?
  10. “What are you looking for in a new job?”
  11. “Develop a “what would you do if presented with this problem scenario” to ask all interviewees.
